Part of what makes Pennsylvania so great is its natural splendor.  The magnificent beauty of autumn in the mountains is hard to match; a truth fully realized at The Great Outdoors Festival.  This annual event takes place at the White Mountain Ski Resort and offers amazing views, top quality entertainment and plenty of honest fun for the family.  Whether looking for a day of fun for the kids, a way to enjoy the loveliness of fall time or the thrill of contest and sport, the Great Outdoors Festival accommodates it all! The Great Outdoors Festival offers visitors a large variety of great events which are sure to be a blast for all ages.  Everything from a climbing wall to paintball, to a haunted house to archery shooting and eating contests is set up through the weekend.  For breath-taking views and a quick romantic escape, be sure to take a ride on the chairlift and take in the fall brilliance. Saturday morning is the challenging but so fun Downhill 5K Trail Run.  The race goes through the whole ski resort and offers fantastic scenery. If you have any gently used winter gear, be sure to drop it off for the Ski and Board Swap.  Or if you are in the market stop by.  The selection is great and they usually sell through most of the items.  A kids area is loaded with a ton of awesome kid’s activities include the festival favorite Barnyard Buddies, plus a Hay Maze, Kid’s Corner, inflatable rides, pony rides, a cool barrel train, and even fishing. At the Great Outdoors festival there is a lot to learn and witness in the way of exhibitions.  The Penn State Lumber Jack Team is on hand with awesome demonstrations, and there is a real working blacksmith and wood carving.  There are also animal shows and while fresh apple butter is churned before visitors very eyes.  For adults and kids alike there is a great art and craft show with quality vendors from the area.  Food vendors serve up delicate, savory, and delicious treats that are sure to tantalize the taste buds and warm the autumn hearts.  Be sure to stop by the Whitetail Chili Cook-off.  Contestants vie for top honors and needless to say the heat will be present in the hearty soup and the competition alike.  Live music from top-quality bands plays all weekend. Admission rates vary and parking is free.
