Every year thousands of dogs and humans alike descend on PawsAbilities. This annual event is the premier dog festival in the state and sponsors cater dutifully and loyally to those most dutiful and loyal of pets. Chalk full of events, demonstrations, contests, and treats, this festival is sure to delight you and your best pooch. So if your four-legged friends are in need of some attention and stimulation, then look no further!
There are more activities at PawsAbilities than you can shake a stick at. Some of the festival favorites include the Abrams and Weakley Parade, the Kids corner and the very popular Dog Olympics. The event is jovial and high-spirited, and it is perhaps through the overwhelming amount of prizes and awards that highlight this best. There are contests seemingly around every corner, including the Costume Contest and the Cutest Dog contest. There is also the Biscuit Bite-Off, where two-legged owners can bake and then enter their dog’s favorite treats; the distinguished panel of judges includes local service dogs. Almost all contests are free to enter and open to everyone.
There are over fifty vendors at PawsAbilities selling goodies for pooches and owners alike. Everything from dog biscuits and custom leashes to specialty hot wing sauce and custom jewelry is available to buy. Two-legged visitors will certainly enjoy and appreciate the demonstrations and seminars held through the weekend. Demonstrations include everything from Frisbee catching canines, to search and rescue dogs, and even police dogs. Seminars often cover the spectrum of how courthouse dogs handle their jobs to lectures by distinguished guest speakers. It is not unusual for there to be a special brunch with said speakers.
Admission cost is nominal and there is a discount for children under 12. Parking is free.
