This autumn season the town of New Kensington wants you out of the house and into the streets; their streets to be more specific. With plenty of craft vendors and great fun, The annual New Kensington Winter Festival Market is the perfect way to spend a day outside in the late fall weather. This winter market is comfortably small, but delivers a mighty dose of autumn splendor. So bundle in your warm coat, grab a hot drink and that special someone and enjoy a day of cool entertainment and lots of great shopping.
Friday evening the festivities start with the ceremonial ribbon cutting by the mayor. In true festival spirit, the fun and music takes the joviality well into the evening. Through the weekend there are plenty of great activities for kids including story hours at the local library, fun shows by magicians and clowns, pony rides, and the elf costume contest. Champion ice carvers are an awesome spectacle for visitors as they chisel and saw to create amazing ice sculptures. Bundle up for the outdoor movie on Saturday night. On Sunday is judging for the cookie-tasting contest with prizes in two categories of competition.
At the Winter Festival Market crafts are aplenty. Dozens and dozens of vendors from across the area sell great hand crafted wares including pottery, fabrics, wooden furniture, and toys. In true holiday spirit there are also plenty of Christmas themed decorations including ornaments and garland pieces. There is also a children’s craft show for kids by kids. Come hungry, because all weekend food vendors are on site selling traditional winter fare, including hot sandwiches and mulled cider.
Admission is free and parking is free.
