Catch The Spirit

We can not find any updated information for the 2014 event at this time.

Catch the Spirit is a community wide event designed to help you with your holiday shopping, while participating in the type of wholesome activities which never seem to loose their luster. So it’s hammed up, so to speak. Businesses hold open houses and public places host galas and the whole town is simply brimming with fun activities, cool shopping, and lots and lots of Christmas treats. Visitors from all over come every year to the Catch the Spirit celebration to get in on some of the holiday atmosphere, and you should too.

When it comes to music, Catch the Spirit is certainly the place to be. Everything from hand bells to traditional choral concerts are to be found at Catch the Spirit. Other shows include pieces by the local school bands including jazz and string ensembles. The local dance studio puts on a performance of the Nutcracker which has become a festival favorite. The annual Historic House Tour has become a hallmark of the festival as well. Visitors can peek at seldom seen areas of colonial era houses and enjoy the lively holiday decorations as well as refreshments. There are some food vendors set up along downtown and a wine and cheese gala in the Gallery of Hamburg, but visitors should also be prepared to enjoy on e of the various restaurants in town.

If there is anything to be “caught” at Catch the Spirit, it is most certainly shopping fever. Artisans and crafters line the downtown streets from late morning to mid afternoon selling fabulous wares and uniquely designed art pieces. When it’s time to move indoors to warm up, be sure to find one of the many merchants hosting open houses. Complete with free refreshments and awesome door prizes, these open houses are certainly not to be overlooked. Whilst shopping, be sure to take a minute to enjoy one of the many children’s activities available to festival guests.  Over at the Reading Railroad Heritage Museum is the annual Arctic Express party for children and has fabulous displays of Christmas trains and toys. Both evenings can find classic Christmas movies at the local theater.

Admission is free and Parking is free.
